iSAtech water GmbH
Water Kiosks Water Kiosk Malawi

Project start: 2016

Partner: Lilongwe Water Board, GSM Association

Project cornerstones:

  • iSAtech Control Units at 31 locations
  • Use in water dispensing kiosks of the local water supplier
  • Configuration: Connection via GSM IPN hub to various mobile payment providers/telephone companies for water delivery via online payment system
  • Networking via mobile radio for online payment system and online monitoring
  • Energy supply: solar/battery

The project aimed to retrofit an existing water tap infrastructure in the greater Lilongwe area to provide residents with access to clean drinking water.

In the future, payment for the water was to be made by cell phone. A mobile payment infrastructure had to be developed for this purpose.

This project was implemented with GreenSeeSaw from South Africa, the Lilongwe Water Board, and the GSM Association. Integrating the Mobile Payment payment system was to serve as a reference. To this end, the iSAtech Control Unit was initially expanded to include the option of online networking.

A central mobile payment infrastructure was developed with the project partner GSM Association, enabling the integration of different telephone providers. This enables the iSAtech PayU-Cloud to receive payment notifications and automatically provide users with water credit at all taps.

The system developed as part of this project to integrate different telephone providers into a central mobile payment system was marketed as the IPN Hub by Beyonic following its successful launch.
