iSAtech water GmbH was founded by graduates of Technical University Berlin in 2010. Since then, we have been developing and producing customized systems to control the delivery of various resources, such as water and electricity, for various applications in cooperation with our international partners.
Our Philosophy
Our approach has been interdisciplinary since the company was founded. We closely intertwine hardware and software development as well as project management to develop the best possible solutions for our customers. Our design decisions are based on more than a decade of hands-on experience. Our developers have worked closely with customers from Germany, Africa, and Asia, and their experiences have provided them with invaluable insights that we use to advance our projects. Additionally, we employ strict quality control measures: systematic reviews, clearly defined processes, a variety of automated end-to-end tests (from our embedded systems to the cloud), and multiple fallback levels ensure that our solutions perform reliably for years and, in some cases, for more than a decade, despite the high speed of iteration. Our open communication and up-to-date methodology allow us to successfully translate technologies into robust, high-quality products that are incredibly flexible in their application.
Our History
From robust electronic systems…
The first project was launched in Africa in 2010. We aimed to develop a robust, cost-effective electronic control system for supplying resources. The control system was supposed to be battery-operated and to work without maintenance for several years in remote and climatically difficult environments.
To this end, iSAtech water GmbH, in collaboration with iSAtech GmbH, began the development of intelligent sensor and actuator technology to design our first electronic control systems. Several long-term field tests were used to advance this technology further. The resulting control systems are still in use today, e.g., in Egypt, and became the basis for many further developments.
… to smart networking…
In 2014, we used the experience gained from field tests and customer feedback to develop an online system in which our devices are connected to the internet via radio. This allowed the integration of Mobile Payment systems for topping up and billing credit. The implementation was planned in 2015 and realized a year later in a field trial in cooperation with the GSM Association, the global umbrella organization of mobile network operators. Today, this system is actively used on a broad scale.
At the same time, our systems were also further developed for use in Germany. In this case, the focus was on integrating our products into modern building management systems: the supply systems were to be connected not by radio but using wired bus systems, with billing via modern payment methods such as PayPal and SEPA transfers. The supply systems should not only be able to supply water but also allow for electricity, heat, washing machines, and dryers. These projects were successfully realized and have been in stable operation since 2020. Many more are planned with innovative approaches for networking in existing buildings.
… to the cloud
Many other use cases have been added to these basic functionalities in recent years: Our system creates invoices for landlords who directly sell electricity to their tenants. It generates tokens for large STS meter infrastructures in Africa and controls major irrigation systems. Our earlier decision to expand our systems into a scalable and highly available cloud infrastructure without abandoning the integration with hardware and water technology in the field facilitated this development. Our profile is complemented by our participation in various research projects for optimizing existing applications (for example, regarding LoRa radio technology or hardware integration tests) as well as projects aimed at developing new applications (e.g., water infrastructure management). These projects were conducted in collaboration with the renowned Fraunhofer institutes and various universities. High quality, especially regarding large-scale projects and applications, flexible systems, and familiarity with innovative approaches, will remain our company’s core for the foreseeable future.
